St. Pete Beach Green Hotels

What if a resort could be environmentally responsible without compromising the services for its guests? That’s a question we asked ourselves years ago. TradeWinds embraced the comprehensive program designed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and was the first resort in the state to apply for its Florida Green Lodging certification. The FDEP often cites TradeWinds as an example of how hoteliers can minimize their impact on the environment and enhance the sustainability of their properties.

Both resorts hold the Green Lodging Certification in recognition of efforts to protect the area’s natural resources, reduce waste and minimize pollution. The resorts use Energy Star rated appliances and high-efficiency air filters for indoor air quality, and have an aggressive recycling program. We’ve even managed to reduce total water consumption by more than 35% through our towel and linen reuse program and making changes in our industrial inhouse laundry complex.

As a pioneer, TradeWinds was the first resort in the state to retrofit all beachfront fixtures with eco-friendly lighting that doesn’t draw newly hatched sea turtles off their course toward the sea. We were rewarded when, for the first time in over 28 years, 85 baby turtles hatched and made their way to the Gulf. We’ve been recognized for our erosion management and habitat conservation, which includes the planting of sea oats and native plant species.

Green initiatives … just small steps we all can do to make sure our beachfront setting is preserved for generations to come.
